DEXA SCANNING
DEXA Scanning: What You Need to Know
GenAge Center provides DEXA scanning that helps clients understand their body composition and bone density accurately and precisely. For instance, it was used in the Netflix series You Are What You Eat to establish a baseline and track progress for fitness & nutrition regimens. Others use it to know whether to focus training on gaining muscle or losing fat, because they are different. Still, others want to know their osteoporosis risk while they can really do something about it. DEXA scanning allows the GenAge team to provide precise, personalized advice for each person’s unique situation, and our scanner is from Hologic, the same brand that the NFL uses at its Combines.
What to Expect
When you visit GenAge Center for DEXA scanning, here’s what you can expect:

-
DEXA scan – You will be lying still, not even chewing gum or talking, on a flat, cushioned surface without shoes for ~7 minutes. You will need to remove metallic objects like glasses and jewelry for the scan and be asked to wear or bring an outfit that does not have metal or reflective materials. The results will be available in minutes.
-
Interpretive consultation – You will receive a printed report and an explanation of the results. You may choose to obtain an additional medical consultation for a more in-depth interpretation that places your results and questions within the context of your specific goals and situation.

If you choose to obtain an interpretation consultation, our team will design an individualized program for you. We will help you stay accountable, monitor your progress, and adjust your nutrition and exercise plans along the way. For some clients, medications or supplements may be recommended.
